The Sylvia Kania Gallery opened its doors in 2008 with the goal of bringing a unique and vibrant artist cooperative to the Portland Maine area.
SKG is comprised of local artists who specialize in a variety of styles and mediums within an interactive creative space and gallery. Events like the First Friday Art Walk (featuring local live music), Naked Gallery Art Parties and drawing groups have made SKG a lively and active addition to the Portland area. Not surprisingly, SKG was voted the Best Art Gallery in Portland in 2009 in the Portland Phoenix readers poll.
In addition to being a unique art space, SKG is a strong supporter of local artistic commerce, playing a role in the formation of the Creative Portland Corporation (CPC) whose goal is to capitalize upon and grow Portland’s creative economy to achieve its greatest potential.
